clothing choices for your photoshoot

what to wear during your maternity, newborn or family session

I often have clients ask me what the best outfit choices for their newborn, family or maternity photoshoots are. Ultimately, the answer is what ever you feel comfortable and good in. I do suggest that you wear a palette of colours that compliment each other, but that doesn’t mean you have to wear matching outfits. In fact, too matchy-matchy can also be a little too much, a palette of colours that work together with different textures is ideal.

Now lets talk about colours. To compliment my editing style best, I suggest neutral colours and earth tones. Think about it this way, if you’re wearing bright colours and crazy patterns then that is what your eye is drawn to in the photo instead of the story the photo tells. Colours such as beige, white, muted pink, burnt orange, mustard yellow and muted/ khaki greens are always a hit.

A flowing dress or skirt is always a good idea! The way it blows in the wind, or moves as you walk looks beautiful in photos.

For newborn photoshoots in my Dorset home studio, I have a number of nappy covers and rompers for your baby and also a selection of dresses and robes mums are welcome to choose from. The dresses and robes are also available for maternity and family photoshoots.
